Doesn't sound cruel to me. You were abused and they all want to brush it under the rug and act like it didn't happen. This kind of trauma affects us and stays with us. It would be nice if they wanted to talk about it. I do wonder about the memories sometimes, too. I have very vivid ones of the abuse but the rest is kind of a blur.
