I definitely think this might have become true.

Perhaps it was better that I did not know at the time because I would have felt bad later if I’d grumbled to her about it.

I definitely think this might have become true. At least she was enjoying her time with the games and crafts while she was in her last days but I am sure it still felt weird to know she was hiding those charges from you.
