I do take my stuff to the Salvation Army in hopes they keep or sell it! But, yeah...

… shops because they do a great job of finding stuff new homes, while raising money for good causes. But I’ve become aware over the years that they also throw a lot of stuff away. And I suspect some of my donations ended up in the bin.
