It’s Courage That Takes Them to the End of the Path

When you are at the end of your rope, or should I say road, do you keep going?

Last night I finished reading The Salt Path and although I was sad it came to an end, I was thankful for a happy ending.

This memoir about a couple, Raynor and Moth Winn, that lost everything and decided to walk a 630-mile path, was poignant yet uplifting.

The couple is in the 50s and Moth was diagnosed with a rare brain disease, so what else would you do when you lose everything and your health was deteriorating, besides walking the path?

I can think of many other things to do but this couple embarks on the journey of a lifetime, something that not many people can say they’ve accomplished and they do it in stride.

With just a rucksack on their back, they walk almost the entire path, missing about 40 miles to do unforeseen circumstances.

One thing I noticed throughout the story was that everyone is always commenting on how old they are.

“And you’ve walked all that way, and you’re so old. I must tell my friend — she’s always wanted to do something adventurous but she has no money. I’ll tell her about you. Old people, just walking and sleeping in a tent, that’s an inspiration.”
