My Daughter is Officially an Adult

Beautiful baby Mia by author

On May 6, 2004, my daughter was born. We named her Mia, which means “mine” in Italian. My husband is Italian and we loved the name. We also used his mother’s name as her middle name.

My husband always joked that we named her Mia (mine) because she wasn’t allowed to have any boyfriends.

She came into this world 12 days early, with a head of dark hair that shocked me (not sure why I thought she would be blonde like me when my husband is brunette). As you can see from the photo, it lightened up as she got older.

She weighed in at 7 pounds 14 ounces.

She was perfect.

However, I was still a baby. When I look back at the pictures, I realize just how young we were. And, I question why we rushed into having kids at the age of 26.

But then again, I wouldn’t have my sweet, precious daughter if I waited. Everything always works out how it’s supposed to and now we will be young enough to travel our hearts out when my younger daughter (15) flies the coup.

My daughter is a Taurus, a strong-willed bull, and that is exactly who she is. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to speak her mind.
