OMG your mom! It's so ridiculous that she is going to be upset with what your son wants to do for his birthday. All because it won't revolve around her. Sorry to say, but my mom is the same, there is reason why they have no friends and mine no longer has any family that wants to talk to her. Sounds like yours is well on her way. :(
