I wanted a job that was snug and cosy and well-paid, that allowed me to lie in bed until ten o’clock, that enabled me to buy nice things like matching cushions and marshmallows and lots of picture books and a wardrobe of dresses and good haircuts and lots of mirrors to admire my hair cuts and dresses and peace and quiet and mainly myself, alone, in solitude with a couple of dozen cats.
