The Italian Easter Tradition That I Happily Married Into
My pants won’t button today
I met my husband 22 years ago and for the past 21 years, we’ve had homemade ravioli and great-grandma’s traditional sauce at Easter.
My husband’s great-grandmother was a first-generation Italian American straight from Sicily. When I first met her, she was making meatballs. That is how you would often find her.
At 4’10, she was a powerhouse of a chef. She could roll 100 meatballs in about 5 minutes.
She could crank out hundreds of ravioli on Easter alone!
When she passed, the tradition was handed down to his grandma (her daughter). We would all huddle and help.
All of the kids loved making ravioli. It has always been our favorite holiday meal to eat.
We would gladly eat it over the Christmas tradition of black squid ink spaghetti. Not a fan.
When grandma passed 8 years ago, we all stepped up and began the tradition in our home. And let me tell you, I hate messes and this has got to be the messiest meal we make.
But, I put on my smile and power through it because of the end results, which are delicious.
