The Razor Slot
Tearing your walls down and finding old, rusty razors
I came across this photo while browsing Reddit and thought of a great analogy.
In the old days, home bathrooms were built with a razor slot in the medicine cabinet.
These were simply small slots in the wall where you would drop your used razors.
There wasn’t anything on the other side collecting them, they merely piled up on the inside of the wall for someone to find later.
Out of sight, out of mind.
Like every drink we put away over the years, thinking just one more won’t hurt.
Well, eventually someone is going to stumble upon our old rusty, bloody razors and it’s not going to be pretty.
That someone is usually ourselves, and the pile of rusty razors is all of the emotional neglect and problems we have accumulated from drinking.
You may think you are handling your alcohol use but in reality, you are just saving up a bunch of old, dirty razors behind the wall.
When I look at this picture, I think of clearing my wreckage from the past. What’s done is done but there may always be razors hidden in the wall.
