This shit has gotten out of control!! I am like you, have no problem tipping for service but grabbing something behind the counter, no. I am over it, and I should start getting cash - good way to get out of it. I just bought a candle the other day at a candle shop. Got the candle myself, brought it to the counter, and then was asked for a tip!
