We Smashed Pumpkins While Everyone Else Was at Taylor Swift
Reliving my youth and 90s music through my daughter
My husband and I are teens of the 90s. Both of us were born in 1978, we were children in the 80s but came of age with the best music, in my opinion.
I love all eras and kinds of music and the 90s encapsulated so many fantastic genres. 90s rap and hip hop, pop, alternative, grunge, and punk music ruled the scene. I loved it all.
I have such specific, vivid memories of driving my Honda Prelude down Western Avenue in San Pedro and Pacific Coast Highway in Palos Verdes during the 90s when certain songs come on the radio.
Don’t you love that? Hearing a song that teleports you back decades and you remember exactly how you felt.
The Smashing Pumpkins were often on the radio back then, being that they formed their band in 1988, they were huge in the 90s. KROQ, a popular alternative radio station out here in Southern California, played them on repeat. When I hear a few songs of theirs, I can remember my friends and I rocking out in the car.
My older daughter who is 19 has always been an old soul when it comes to music. She isn’t a fan of today’s popular music, although she was when she was younger.
