What I love about this is that you were not forced by her to change your thinking. When you saw her being vulnerable and softening, then you softened. I sure know how it goes to have a complicated relationship with a mother and it's not easy when you have one that is difficult. But, in the end, you are choosing to have a relationship that you feel comfortable having. You can always step away again if things get difficult.
