What is the Consensus on Claps Now?

I’ve been on vacation and before that, I was in vacation mode. There have been so many changes around Medium and most of them positive but I’ve been having a hard time keeping up.

And, catching up.

I can’t seem to really find a concrete answer to this question. When I search Medium, it doesn’t give me the latest stories, yet stories from years ago.

Does only one clap register? Are 50 claps pointless now besides seeing the lovely climbing number on your story?

I’ve been holding down the little button for my friends and other amazing writers for over a year. It became second nature.

Yesterday in the airport, I was trying to get through so many missed notifications and catching up on my favorite writers and it did have me thinking:

Do I need to hold down this button for everyone still? If you have done this out in public, like in the airport, it does feel kind of awkward.
